Project Objective
Ontario County requested the expertise of Wendel Duchscherer to replace out-dated maintenance facilities for both the County Area Transit System
and the County Department of Public Works with
a single shared facility that would be more cost-effective and efficient than either entity could construct or operate on their own. 

Solution
A new 45,000 square foot, single-story joint facility constructed on 17 acres of County property located in the Town of Hopewell, Ontario County, New York.  The new facility is located between the County’s Buildings and Grounds Operations Center and their Public Safety Building, thereby creating a campus of county operations and services that can share similar functions and facilities. 

The project site includes an operations/maintenance facility, staff parking, bus parking, heated and unheated vehicle storage, utility tie-ins and improvements, and storm water detention/retention facilities.  There will also is an outside fuel island. 

The new joint facility includes a total of 10 maintenance bays (5 for Transit, 5 for County Public Works), a wash/steam clean bay, parts and storage room, fabrication shop, administrative offices, and conference/training room.  The administrative portion includes space for both transit and County Public Works, and contains, a dispatch office, a customer service area, records storage, scheduling office,
and drivers room.  An adjacent support area includes combined locker rooms and toilet/shower facilities.

The facility will maintain approximately 340 vehicles, 50 of them being transit vehicles, the remainder being county DPW vehicles.
