Senior Architect – Public Transit

Wendel is seeking a committed and talented Architect to work out of our office in Atlanta, GA, Alexandria, VA, or Minneapolis, MN. The goal of this position is to provide leadership within the architecture practice area related to architectural design services and oversight for the Public Transit client sector.  In addition, the position includes business development which at a high level is achieved through building and maintaining client relationships, representing Wendel in the market, and providing input on business planning, to the Client Sector Leader (CSL), with an effort to grow business and in turn, the organization.  In addition to the role of project architect, the position includes training, mentoring, and leading junior staff that may assist on your projects. Success for the position will be to grow Public Transit work in partnership with the CSL, execute work on time and on budget, achieve client satisfaction, support Wendel’s culture and fundamentals, increase Wendel’s presence as a leader in the national market, and train up junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advisor and resource to the Practice Area Leader and the CSL.
  • Work closely with the Program Manager to improve efficiencies, build long-term goals, and support the successful execution of projects.
  • Balance mix of business development, Practice Area initiatives, and project work.
  • Take part in go / no go meetings and key interviews.
  • Collaborate with the CSL and/or proposal leads to establish fees, schedules, and project team makeup for all practice area led proposals.
  • Lead the project design process including articulation of the project vision, program, and team design approach.
  • Take part in regular Public Transit business development meetings and practice area check-ins.
  • Assist in annual business planning.
  • Train, mentor and lead junior staff in proper project execution.
  • Uphold, reinforce, and support the Strong Project Manager and Strong Project Sponsor on all Public Transit projects.
  • Work with the Resource Manager and Regional Office Leader to support team development and growth within the office and Public Transit.
  • Occasionally attend industry events / conferences.

 

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience with a minimum of 10 years of experience on public transit projects and a proven ability to manage clients and projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Professional degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Professional license preferred with the ability to become licensed across the U.S.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and communication abilities.
  • Strong customer service, and collaboration skills with an ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills, especially under difficult circumstances.
  • Strong high-level leadership skills.
  • Commitment to a team-oriented approach.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, Revit, and AutoCAD as required for individual roles.

Salary range

$110,000 – $140,000

Wendel is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. Salary offered will be determined based the successful candidates’ relevant education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary offered will also take into consideration regional adjustment factors.
