School is a place where our children learn, play, and grow. Teachers, faculty, and staff dedicate their professional lives to helping the next generation find their passions and provide them with the skills they need to go out and chase their dreams. A clean and healthy environment is essential, and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has a plan to help this be a reality in every New York State school district. Additional funding has now been announced to help continue these initiatives throughout New York State.

The Clean Green Schools Initiative

As part of the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85% by 2050, NYSERDA offers energy study grants for schools as part of the Clean Green Schools initiative. This initiative seeks to aid in creating a cleaner, healthier environment for our children to learn in and our teachers, faculty, and staff to work in. Through NYSERDA funding, schools can participate in benchmarking feasibility studies and implement recommendations from those studies over time to achieve decarbonization goals.

By assisting schools that traditionally lack the resources to invest in major infrastructure updates allows the districts to undertake improvement projects that not only provide a healthier environment, but also include the installation of clean energy equipment that will lower energy usage which reduces utility costs.
