Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper and Erie County collaborated with Wendel to enhance amenities and improve accessibility at a picturesque site along the Buffalo River. The project focused on creating shoreline-sensitive pedestrian pathways, seating areas, overlooks, interpretive signage, and facilities for launching paddlecraft. This work was carried out in coordination with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), and Erie County.
As part of the New York Empire State Development and Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper’s Buffalo Blueway Project, the design of waterfront accessibility improvements includes pedestrian pathways that are sensitive to the shoreline, new seating areas, overlooks, interpretive signage, and paddlecraft launch facilities. Key features of the design include new walkways, overlooks, seating bays, interpretive signage, spaces for loading and staging paddlecraft, slope stabilization for Blueway access, and repaved vehicular areas.
