A Multi-Award Winning Fire Department

The Beacon Fire Department Headquarters has earned multiple industry recognitions for its design excellence and community impact, including a Silver Award in the Renovations category from Firehouse Magazine’s 2025 Station Design Awards and a Merit-level distinction through the 2025 Fire Station Design Awards program. It was also honored with a 2026 New York AIA Excelsior Award, recognizing excellence in publicly funded design and its positive contribution to users and the broader community.

2025 ACEC NY Platinum Award Winner

The  Greenville Transit Authority’s new Operations and Maintenance Facility, which received a platinum award. The facility is designed to balance operational demands with thoughtful community integration. Built across a 29-foot grade change and designed to support four fueling types, the facility works hard behind the scenes while fitting naturally into its neighborhood.

2025 NY Upstate ASLA Multi Award Winner

The Smokes Creek Bethlehem Steel Passive Recreational Park has received the 2025 NY Upstate ASLA Honor Award for Planning and Analysis and the first inaugural Climate Action Award! The design creates an accessible, inclusive, and environmentally friendly public park that offers recreational and educational opportunities while honoring the site’s unique industrial history.

Transit Project Receives Multiple Awards

The Valley Metro Northwest Phase II Light Rail Extension project was awarded the Engineering News Record (ENR) Southwest Chapter Project of the Year in the Airport/Transportation Category; Large Project of the Year from the National Railroad Construction & Maintenance (NRC), and the Build Arizona award from the Arizona Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc. (AZACG). The project was also a finalist for the National ENR Project of the Year.

A Buffalo Landmark’s Multi-Award-Winning Expansion

The Buffalo AKG Art Museum is now a multi-award winning project. In 2024, it received the Buffalo Business First Golden Brick and was an Engineering News Record Regional Best Projects Project of Merit. Wendel was involved with the conceptual design, planning, permitting, NYS SEQR, and site development consisting of civil engineering, storm-water engineering including Green Infrastructure, landscape architecture, and Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy compliance.
