Wendel is currently seeking a Water Resource Engineer who will manage environmental regulatory compliance programs, permitting and reporting. The Water Resource Engineer will provide leadership on projects with responsibility for developing site or project compliance strategy, performing as a liaison within the company and with regulators; planning, scheduling, and executing programs while demonstrating a high degree of judgement, expertise, and leadership in the field. This hybrid position can be out of any of the Wendel offices located in NYS.
This is the right position for you if:
- You are experienced in all aspects of field investigation (drafting work plans, permitting, coordinating field teams and subcontractors, and sample collection), data evaluation, report writing, and client communication.
- You are passionate towards Engineering design for environmental projects, including preparation of drawings, specifications, calculations, and other design deliverables, and developing operation, maintenance, and monitoring plans.
- You truly enjoy project management work.
- You are great with client relations and your communication skills are top notch.
- You can review and interpret regulations and obtain the correct permits.
- Ensuring compliance with DOE, other federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and requirements by developing plans and objectives which provide for project conformance is exciting to you.
- You are able to travel to job sites and work outside of the office setting some of the time, conducting site and subsurface monitoring for environmental projects, operation & maintenance of remediation systems, as well as monitoring contractor activities during construction.
You will have:
- Experience with the full range of an environmental project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, conceptual design, budgetary cost development, detailed design, and contractor selection.
- Experience with remediation systems, including water pumping and treatment, vapor extraction, construction dewatering, permitting and contractor management.
- Experience with restoration projects.
- BA/BS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Natural Sciences.
- A PE License is not required but desired.
- Mastery knowledge of environmental compliance.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting agencies.
- Experience with industry specific software applications including HEC-RAS, HydroCAD and SWMM.
- Demonstrated experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater and site design.

Wendel is looking to hire an enthusiastic Planning Intern to work directly with our Planning team. Intern will be based in the Williamsville office, with occasional work out of the Downtown Buffalo office. Job Purpose:
Assist our team of Planners with SEQR documentation, municipal project review, solar project review, and preparation of comprehensive plans and other planning documents. There will also be an opportunity to attend public meetings as well as municipal and private client meetings.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a master’s degree in planning or a related field at an accredited institution.

Wendel is looking to hire an enthusiastic future Sustainability Specialist to intern in our Buffalo or Williamsville, NY office. This intern will work directly within our Architecture team focusing on sustainability driven goals and requirements across projects from all sectors. Internship Purpose:
- Help to grow Wendel’s responsibility and portfolio build-up of projects as we continue to grow and be leaders in climate stewardship.
- Work on real life projects across all Client Sectors, including but not limited to Public Safety, Transit, K-12, Private Development, and State and Local Government.
- Serve as a resource to project design teams as it relates to sustainability.
- Work closely with project teams to improve efficiencies, build long-term goals, and support the successful execution of projects.
- Serve as or support designated LEED Administrator overseeing LEED process, application, and program management from design through construction.
- Learn and provide simple box predictive modelling for energy and water efficiency.
- Support internal initiatives to include Cove, AIA 2030, Core 4, Sustainable Material Library, and Stewards of the Environment.
- Support corporate reporting to include the annual sustainability report, APTA, SBR and EUISSCA – NYPA.
Requirements:
- A student that has a clear and demonstrable interest in sustainability as a specialty within the built environment.
- Currently pursuing an Architecture degree, while focusing on environmental stewardship and occupant health & well-being.
- Future enrollment in a professional license program (AXP).
- Occasionally attend industry events.
- Strong desire to learn and grow.
- Background knowledge / familiarity with LEED Online.
