Albany AI

The University at Albany expanded its data center with an AI compute platform, increasing power capacity from 900kW to 1,200kW and adding UPS, generator, distribution, busway, and cooling upgrades.

Albany AI

The University of Albany was looking to expand it’s traditional data center to include a Artificial Intelligence (AI) compute platform. The AI compute platform was to be installed in the existing white space in a way that allowed the two platforms to work together.

To support the expansion the electrical system capacity was increased from 900 kW to 1,200 kW. This work included: the replacement of the existing transformer based UPS with a modular, transformer based UPS; two power distribution units; the addition of a third generator, overhead busway; all utilizing 240/415 volt power. The additional heating load presented by the expansion was accommodated by the addition of two 35 ton computer room air handlers.
