The Batavia City School District’s 2020 Vision Capital Project was the first of a two stage plan to address infrastructure needs at the District’s five sites. A significant focal point for the Capital Project was the complete reconstruction of Van Detta Stadium. Senior Landscape Architect Dave Kenyon and Wendel’s site design team performed extensive stadium programming studies with the district focused on a state of the art athletic facility that would provide them with a regulation 8 lane synthetic track, synthetic turf multi-sport field, bleachers to accommodate 2,500 spectators, press box and locker rooms tucked beneath the bleachers. Wendel was able to creatively incorporate all programming requirements on a relatively tight site by tucking the new locker rooms under the bleachers. A creative solution to the substantial stormwater management infrastructure was key to meeting the brief construction schedule. This project is focused on the following infrastructure: • New artificial turf, track, stadium, locker rooms and amenities • Classroom addition and space reconfiguration at John Kennedy Intermediate School • Auditorium upgrades including rigging and acoustics • Parent drop-off reconfiguration to address student safety concerns • Roofing replacement • Replacement of exterior windows • Interior finish upgrades
