Wendel completed a detailed process, mechanical, electrical, and structural condition/criticality assessments of the five facilities. Early inspection work identified critical structural components requiring immediate attention. In an effort to determine the possible cause for the structural issues with the south wall of the Colonel Ward Pumping Station, the following services were completed:

  • Completed a series of field investigations to investigate possible sources for water intrusion in the vicinity of the south wall of the
  • Colonel Ward Pumping Station including a waterline leak survey, storm sewer inspection, inspection of exterior wall (including test pits) and roof for avenues for rain intrusion, and review of geotechnical reports for projects adjacent to the south wall.
  • Completed design and construction services for cleaning and repairs to the Filtered Water Conduit, a 12-ft diameter tunnel located 30 feet underground. Repairs methods utilized included injection grouting. Wendel designed an aluminum stop log system to allow dewatering of the conduit as part of the project.
  • Conducted a detailed survey of the south end of the Colonel Ward Pumping Station Building, in the vicinity of the filtered water conduit, establishing vertical and horizontal control points to determine the extent of possible movement of the wall and floor in this area.
  • Retained a diving company to complete an underwater visual inspection of the filtered water conduit for evidence of structural failure.
  • Developed design documents for repair of discovered leaking joint including plan for maintenance of service during construction.
  • Developed shoring plan/ supervised construction to address building concerns in the south end of the Colonel Ward Pumping Station.
