Forest Lawn Heritage Foundation

Location

Buffalo, NY

Forest Lawn Heritage Foundation and Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper obtained a grant and secured private funding to create a constructed wetland on a one-acre
parcel adjacent to Delaware Avenue within Forest Lawn Cemetery. Due to the complexity of the work involved, Wendel was brought in to lead the design and construction of this wetland. The wetland will provide water quality treatment of runoff from paved surfaces in the cemetery before it enters Scajaquada Creek. In addition to the design of the constructed wetland, Wendel incorporated a series of trails and pedestrian bridges through the wetland, allowing the public to view various ecological zones with the use of strategically placed overlooks.

Regulatory Agency Involvement included the United States Army Corps of Engineers (US ACOE), New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation (NYS DEC), and the Buffalo Sewer Authority.
