Niagara Falls, New York, sought to modernize its streetlighting system with an LED upgrade to enhance lighting quality and reduce operational expenses. After a competitive selection process, the City chose Wendel to lead this transformative project.
Our team guided the City through the utility buyback process, conducted a GIS audit, and developed a custom web-mapping tool for accurate asset verification. We resolved discrepancies with National Grid, designed installation documents, and performed photometric modeling to select optimal LED luminaires. Wendel managed procurement, oversaw installation by local contractors, and secured significant funding including $10.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and over $400,000 in rebates.
The results are substantial: first-year savings exceeded $1 million, energy use dropped by more than 2 million kWh, and carbon emissions fell by over one million pounds. This project delivers financial, environmental, and community benefits while positioning Niagara Falls for a smarter, more sustainable future.
