Royal Park Sports Complex

Wendel’s planning, design, and engineering services helped reimagine Royal Park into a multi-use facility that meets NCAA Division II standards. The completed park now offers new opportunities for recreation and competition in Amherst.

Royal Park Sports Complex

Royal Park, a 9-acre public park at 187 West Royal Parkway, has a long history as a community gathering place. The Royal Park Improvement Project was launched to reimagine the park’s facilities and expand opportunities for recreation and athletics. The initiative focused on upgrading existing amenities while introducing new features to serve Amherst residents and Daemen University Athletics.

Wendel provided the full range of services needed to bring this project to life, beginning with community engagement and concept development. Our team led the design and engineering of the park improvements, ensuring the final plan met the needs of both Amherst residents and Daemen University Athletics.

The completed work includes a new multi-use field built to NCAA Division II standards and a 3,300-square-foot field house featuring locker rooms, offices, a training room, concessions, storage, and fully accessible restrooms. The basketball court was resurfaced and updated with new equipment, while six tennis courts and two pickleball courts were added to accommodate growing interest in racket sports. Family-focused amenities such as a splash pad, a picnic pavilion, and a walking path with provisions for future adult fitness trails round out the enhancements.

Through Wendel’s planning, design, and engineering expertise, Royal Park has been revitalized into a facility that combines athletics, recreation, and community use, ensuring long-term value for the Town of Amherst and Daemen University.
