Swedish Match Headquarters

Swedish Match, a global smoke less tobacco company headquartered in Stockholm, established their United States headquarters in Richmond Virginia and engaged Wendel to design a modern 29,000 square foot workplace within the James Center. The new space spans two floors connected by an interior stair and brings the organization together in a cohesive, contemporary environment that reflects their Scandinavian roots.

The program includes a visitor sales area and a dedicated training room designed as a mock retail store, complete with storefront style glass and full product display. This immersive environment supports hands on learning while also showcasing the company’s brand and products in a polished, controlled setting.

The overall design is shaped by a Scandinavian aesthetic that honors Swedish Match’s heritage through tonal whites, layered grays, natural materials, and subtle texture. The result is a workplace that feels clean, calm, and refined while still supporting the needs of a fast paced corporate headquarters. Wendel provided space planning, programming, construction documents, interior design, construction administration, and furniture design to fully realize the vision.
