Town of Greece Street Lighting

Wendel provided a comprehensive range of services to the Town of Greece to upgrade its streetlights to LED technology. This helped the town reduce utility costs and enhance the lighting system’s reliability and efficiency. The project was executed under an Energy Saving Performance Contract, allowing for a systematic and financially responsible approach to the conversion. 

The upgrade process was planned and executed in four phases, with Wendel assisting the Town in prioritizing the replacement of the most inefficient lighting first. Our team provided services including GIS mapping, photometric analysis, design, material procurement, installation, construction management, and rebate administration. This comprehensive strategy ensured maximized energy savings from the outset, allowing additional resources to be allocated for subsequent phases. The project resulted in a well-maintained streetlighting system that significantly improved illumination compared to the previous utility-managed system. 

The Town of Greece successfully upgraded over 7,000 streetlights along several major arterial roadways through Wendel’s turnkey design-build services. Traditional high-intensity discharge (HID) fixtures have been replaced with energy-efficient LED luminaires and asset management nodes. This upgrade reduced electricity consumption and extended the fixtures’ lifespan, leading to significant operational cost savings.  As part of this project, Wendel also added new parking lot lighting, removed old wood utility poles, replaced underground wiring as needed, and installed snow/ice detection sensors to enhance roadway maintenance services. 

This program reduced the Town’s energy and maintenance costs by more than $7M over the luminaires’ useful life. To further offset the system upgrades’ total cost of $2,800,000, we assisted the Town with applications to receive over $500,000 in energy rebates from the local utility.
