POSTED 02-27-2026 Construction of the new 23,470-square-foot Selkirk Fire Department Headquarters continues to advance as the steel frame is complete, and masonry work begins. Wendel’s Five Bugles Design and Mitchell Associates Architects have partnered with the district on this project since 2012, helping shape a facility that will serve the community for generations. Today, Wendel is also leading the build through our Master Builder® delivery model, coordinating design, construction, and project management into a single integrated team. This approach supports efficiency, clear communication, and a smoother path from concept through completion. As progress continues, the team welcomed fifth-grade STEAM students from AW Becker Elementary for a look at how classroom lessons translate to the field. Guided by Kiel Sadowsky and Mike Wilkinson, nearly 40 students saw how plans become buildings, how crews work safely, and how many roles contribute to a project like this. The Selkirk Fire Department provided hard hats for students and teachers, making the experience memorable and hands-on. Teachers worked with Commissioner Dale Richter to align the visit with students’ current studies. They connected science and math to real measurements and sequencing and tied technology and engineering to the tools and methods used on-site. They highlighted the design process and the teamwork that keeps complex projects moving. The students left with a clearer sense of how community spaces take shape and the types of careers that make it possible. Opening the site to students offered a meaningful way to give back and to show how collaboration strengthens both education and public safety. For our team, it was a reminder that while we’re building an essential facility, we’re also helping to inspire the next generation of thinkers and doers.
