We are seeking an Engineering Manager in our water/wastewater services team, responsible to lead four main efforts in our northern Virginia region:  1) Managerial leadership, 2) Technical leadership, 3) Quality assurance, and 4) Business development.

Projects will focus on municipal engineering services. Position goals will include project leadership/management, proposal development, basis-of-design, project and team oversight, quality reviews, team mentoring, recruiting, hiring, and expanding Wendel’s presence in NVA.

This role includes leading projects, mentoring teams, career path growth and longevity, potential for firm ownership, and more. Responsibilities

  • Expert in all facets of municipal engineering services including water treatment, wastewater treatment, and linear distribution.
  • Verse in applicable codes and standards.
  • Review, analyze, assess, make recommendations, etc. for systems.
  • Coordination with leaders and managers on company initiatives and project commitments.
  • Business development leadership, including expansion of our Virginia portfolio.
  • Recruiting and supporting growth of an engineering team in northern Virginia.
  • Preliminary assessments and high-level project strategy.
  • Field investigation and condition assessment of existing systems.
  • Proposal preparation including statements of qualifications.
  • Development of basis of design scopes of work, schematics, etc.
  • Presentation and report writing.
  • Make decisions based on independent evaluation(s) that are in the best interests of clients, projects, and teams.
  • Meeting with clients to lead and support projects throughout design and construction.
  • Review work performed by others; correct, teach, and mentor to build technical skillsets.
  • Work directly with and lead teams, in a collaborative manner, focused on group success.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • PE license is required.
  • Expertise in multiple technical areas of civil and municipal engineering.
  • Capable and responsible for QA/QC on assigned tasks and projects.
  • Ability to lead development of construction documents, and support bidding and construction activities during implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills, written, oral and presentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal staff and clients.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Revit software is a plus.
  • Experience with building modeling is a plus.
  • Team player.

Salary range

$125,000 – $190,000

Water Wastewater Engineering Department Manager

Wendel is currently seeking a Department Manager to oversee the Water/Wastewater Engineering Resource Group out of our Williamsville, NY headquarters. This leadership position has the critically important role of coordinating project work with our water/wastewater leaders and technical team. Responsibilities include scheduling of project teams, coordinating team commitments and deadlines, managing the groups utilization, technical training, quality, mentoring and coaching of technical professionals. This leadership role serves as a liaison between company management objectives and technical team project efforts. In addition to these management responsibilities, this Engineer/Department Manager will serve as both a technical lead and project manager for medium to large scale study, design, and construction projects involving water and wastewater treatment, storage, pumping and distribution/collection systems.

Responsibilities

  • Become the trusted advisor to our established water and wastewater clients and supplement our sales team in the development and securing of new project work.
  • Diagnosing, analyzing and implementing treatment process improvements.
  • Optimization of treatment plant operation systems including: Pretreatment, Filtration, Chemical disinfection, Residuals and Energy systems.
  • Asset evaluation and related long-term capital planning.
  • Hydraulic modeling of treatment system processes and storage systems.
  • Supplementing utility staff with water and wastewater expertise in critical situations.
  • Represent the Wendel Water/Wastewater Group within the Wendel organization to corporate management.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering or related fields is required.
    Current PE license is required.
  • The ideal candidate has 10 plus years of experience in the water and/or wastewater discipline.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be available to travel to job sites and client meetings.
  • Occasional overnight travel will be required.
  • Capable of working independently; minimum supervision required.
  • Previous team leadership, management experience, and mentoring skills.

Renewable Energy Site Engineer

Wendel is currently seeking a Civil Engineer to work with our Renewable Energy services group, providing support on Civil/Site design for Solar, Battery Energy Storage and other renewable energy projects. We are seeking someone with a strong knowledge of design, production, and implementation of Renewable Energy development projects and Civil/Site projects. Experience with Site plan design, grading design, and stormwater and hydraulic calculations are a plus, as well as familiarity with State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR), Department of Environmental Conservation stormwater permitting, and code review.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site visits for project feasibility.
  • Assist with preliminary site layouts.
  • Develop comprehensive solar designs including Site plans, structural drawings and engineering calculations.
  • Produce both Site Plan and construction document drawings that will be used for permit approvals and construction.
  • Support permitting application processes.
  • Effectively communicate with project stakeholders including clients, professional engineers, contractors and coworkers.
  • Provide design and technical implementation of a high-quality project within the intended scope, timeframe, budget, and client expectations.
