Wendel is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated professional to join our Energy Practice Area as an Energy Engineer in our Rochester, NY Office. This individual will support the Energy team’s project portfolio while working in a team environment. An exciting opportunity exists to provide energy related technical and management services to an existing key client, with numerous facilities in the greater Rochester area. This “On-site Energy Manager” role offers a unique and rewarding experience with leadership responsibility and direct client interaction as the customer’s trusted Energy Manager.

Typical activities and responsibilities include performing energy analysis and calculations, in-field identification of energy measures and data collection of existing building energy systems. Additional tasks include the development of energy benchmarking, in-field audits, energy management planning, building assessments and studies, energy management system analysis, design document review, and funding program valuations for a large portfolio of buildings to advance projects into implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Routine on-site interaction and advisement with the client’s facilities department, and participation on client’s energy committee.
  • Energy data analysis including benchmarking and budget analysis.
  • Targeted on-site building energy audits.
  • Development of an energy master plan.
  • Review of on-going capital projects to identify and evaluate energy related measures and associated rebates and incentives.
  • Review existing energy management system functions and make commissioning and system enhancement recommendations.
  • Provide staff training.
  • Quarterly reporting of energy consultation accomplishments.
  • Develop project case studies to document and highlight energy efficiency and decarbonization projects.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • 5 to 15 years of relevant experience in technical areas (i.e., energy data, lighting, HVAC, HVAC controls, solar, etc.,)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field is ideal.
  • Certified Energy Manager, Certified Energy Auditor, or other industry related certifications is ideal.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software required.
  • Experience working on energy audits, developing energy master plans, and/or energy related construction projects is ideal.
  • Hands on HVAC maintenance and services and/or commissioning/retro-commissioning experience.
  • The ability to complete multiple tasks, on multiple projects, by deadlines.
  • QA/QC of your own assigned tasks and projects.
  • Experience supporting construction activities during implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal staff, client contacts, and public boards.
  • Reliable transportation to local customer sites.

Salary range

$70,000 – $130,000

Wendel is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated professional to join our Energy Practice Area as a Lighting Auditor in our Rochester or Hauppauge, NY offices. This individual will perform in-depth evaluations of lighting systems for various clients.  This role involves conducting detailed on-site lighting assessments, collecting relevant data, and collaborating with design and engineering teams to recommend energy-efficient lighting upgrades. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting building owners and managers with customized lighting solutions that optimize energy use.

Responsibilities

  • Actively promote our energy efficiency offerings by conducting scheduled lighting assessments and maintaining a professional relationship with clients.
  • Perform comprehensive on-site evaluations of lighting systems, including measuring fixture types, conditions, and energy usage, and documenting essential data such as light levels, fixture heights, and control systems.
  • Work closely with the engineering and design teams to develop lighting upgrade recommendations, considering project outcomes and financial factors based on audit findings.
  • Propose lighting system improvements that enhance energy efficiency, recommending products that meet the client’s needs and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all audit recommendations follow local, state, and federal guidelines while staying up to date with industry trends and best practices in energy efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in LL88/LL134, NYCECC, ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Construction experience specifically for lighting projects.
  • Experience developing lighting projects in K-12, University, Commercial & Industrial.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients professionally. Proven ability to collaborate with internal staff and clients.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain organization, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in data entry and accuracy in documenting findings in databases and tracking systems.
  • 2 to 10 years’ experience in lighting auditing or a similar role.
  • Experience with lighting audit software (e.g., Snapcount) is a plus but not necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (mechanical, electric, energy management or other related engineering field is ideal).
  • Certified Energy Manager in Training (CEM IT) or other industry related certifications is ideal.

Providing energy calculation support, field verification and data collection of existing building energy systems and development of energy assessment reports and studies.

Construction Site Superintendent – Energy Department

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Construction Site Superintendent to join our diverse and growing team out of our Williamsville or Rochester, NY office.

 

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for managing the simultaneous construction of energy conservation measures at multiple projects sites. These construction projects will be primarily focused on mechanical, electrical and controls improvements. In addition, you will assist with cost estimating by coordinating and soliciting subcontractor pricing during the project bidding phase.

During the construction phase the role will require safety coordination and oversight, oversee construction trades and vendors to ensure projects are completed within time and budgetary constraints. Coordinate RFIs from construction trades.  Review and supervise construction projects for adherence to plans, drawings and specifications.

Report on progress and provide regular updates to upper management.  Ensure compliance by all subcontractors, Vendors & Consultants to insurance requirements.  Process invoices and coordinate with accounting department. Maintain departmental tracking logs for Project and Vendor status.  Prepare agendas and minutes for weekly departmental meetings. Coordinate Permits and Approvals processes with municipal agencies.

 

Qualifications

  • 2-10 years of experience as a Construction Site Superintendent.
  • Proven communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office.  Procore or other document tracking software experience a plus.
  • Willing to work outdoors in various weather at times.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be available to travel to job sites and client meetings.
  • Willing to travel overnight to work sites if necessary.

Energy Engineer Internship

Wendel is looking to hire an enthusiastic and highly motivated future Energy Engineer to intern and work directly with our Energy Engineer team in Long Island. Our internship program provides hands-on practical experience for students while potentially developing the individual to take on a full-time role with Wendel post-graduation.

Internship Purpose

  • Work on real life projects like the development of comprehensive and investment grade energy audits, including data collection, utility bill disaggregation and benchmarking.
  • Actively work on projects with various energy conservation measures (ECMs) across a variety of client sectors and facility types.
  • Engage in direct support of reducing greenhouse gases and climate change.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and other Engineers.
  • Assist with field visits, energy calculations, cost estimates and contractor pricing, energy measure descriptions and detailed work scope packages; report writing, and project design documents.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree at an accredited institution.
