Wendel has assisted the City of Buffalo with the preparation of a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). A LWRP is a comprehensive plan that focuses on the waterfront and is structured around a number of coastal management policies that reflect local concerns and places the review and decision making at the local level. Thus, any federal, state or local project proposed within the waterfront area must be consistent with the policies of the City’s LWRP.
Wendel’s tasks varied greatly, ranging from extensive inventory/analysis of resources, developing coastal management policies and strategies for implementing the policies to addressing development issues/opportunities, designing redevelopment scenarios and creating a brand ‘logo’.
Wendel was also instrumental in gathering input from citizen groups and the general public in the development of the program policies that address public access and recreation, community character, water quality protection, flooding and erosion, habitat protection, historic and cultural resources, and economic development.
