Erie County Parks Master Plan Update

Parks and Recreation Planning

The Erie County Parks System consists of over 10,000 acres of park lands, broken into approximately 38 developed parks and 13 undeveloped Forestry Lots/Conservation Properties. Unique to this impressive system of greenspaces are five large “Heritage Parks,” originally constructed in 1926, and which include dozens of WPA-era stone shelters and structures in each park. Due to changing times, user dynamics, recreational trends and environmental initiatives in the region, this comprehensive parks system master plan project is focusing new attention on these beautiful natural and recreational resources to ensure they will meet the current and future needs of the county’s residents. The master plan has a particular focus on preserving, improving and enhancing existing assets before any “new” ideas are considering. All planning has an eye towards improved operations, maintenance and management of the County Parks System.
