Mastic Beach Comprehensive Plan

Wendel, in partnership with Vision Long Island, developed a Comprehensive Vision Plan for the Village of Mastic Beach on the south shore of Long Island.  The community was one of the hardest hit communities by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.  Village officials wanted a plan and strategy to restore its battered waterfront and to revitalize the inland neighborhoods and commercial districts.  Given the extensive freshwater and tidal wetlands, a goal was to leverage a restored shoreline and ecological enhancements throughout the Village to stimulate economic growth.

The public and stakeholder visioning process was used to develop strategies to address critical issues including but not limited to: enhancing public access for water-based recreation; protecting surface water quality; protecting scenic resources, aesthesis, community character, and quality of life; promoting economic development that balances tourism and year-round services; and, improving waterfront  infrastructure and transportation.
