Bridge Over Dry Creek

The Erie County Department of Public Works started an initiative to replace the Savage Road Bridge, which crosses Dry Creek north of Genesee Street in the Town of Sardinia. Wendel was hired to design the new bridge and highway approach, and the team began preliminary designs including topographic and ROW survey and mapping assessment of the existing bridge’s condition. Hydraulic analysis, environmental studies and cost estimating were completed before holding a public information meeting and submitting a final design report. The hydraulic analysis revealed that the existing bridge opening was larger than required to meet current standards, and after review the NYSDOT approved the plan to reduce the span from 54’ to 48’. The final design process included everything from pile foundation and superstructure design to work zone traffic control and coordination with utility companies.
