Constructed Wetland and Environmental Sanctuary

Creation of a newly constructed wetland and serenity garden space on a highly visible parcel adjacent to Delaware Avenue within historic Forest Lawn Cemetery. Wendel collaborated with the Buffalo Niagara Waterkeepers to prepare a final design and construction documents for this new wetland feature. Once completed, the pond/wetland will be used to provide water quality treatment of runoff from uphill sources and paved surfaces in the cemetery before it enters Scajaquada Creek. The design also included a series of trails and pedestrian bridges through the wetland to encourage the public to view various ecological zones with the use of strategically placed overlooks.
