Department of Psychiatry

This project involved the relocation of the Department of Psychiatry for VCU Health System into a 28,000 sf tenant space spanning three floors. The relocation allowed for a reorganization of the Department into a fresh, calming environment for the patients and staff. Multiple waiting rooms were created for distinct patient sectors. The client’s concern for acoustical and visual privacy were addressed through the use of translucent acrylic partitions and sound-absorptive materials. Our goal was to design a comforting interior by introducing woods, soft upholstered seating, soothing paint colors, and elements inspired by nature.
