Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

• Coordinate project work with civil/transportation leadership and technical staff to ensure seamless delivery.
• Oversee the growth, development, and daily management of staff.
• Manage scheduling, commitments, and deadlines across multiple projects.
• Monitor group utilization, provide technical training, and maintain quality standards.
• Mentor and coach technical professionals to support career growth and retention.
• Represent the Surface Transportation Group to corporate management.

Technical & Project Delivery

• Serve as engineering lead for bridge, culvert, and related structural projects.
• Oversee asset evaluations and support long-term capital planning.
• Design, manage, and advise on transportation infrastructure projects from concept through construction.
• Provide technical support to utility staff in critical situations.
• Ensure compliance with NYSDOT, FHWA, and other applicable standards, including the NYSDOT Project Development Manual and LDSA Guidelines.

Client & Business Development

• Act as a trusted advisor to established transportation clients.
• Support business development efforts by identifying and securing new project opportunities.
• Assist in proposal preparation and contract negotiations.
• Maintain involvement in professional societies and industry events to expand visibility.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 15+ years of civil/transportation engineering experience, including 10+ years in project/program management.
• Minimum of 10 years in bridge engineering, with experience on NYSDOT LDSA, BridgeNY, and Design/Bid/Build projects.
• Familiarity with various funding sources, such as LAFA.
• Proficient in MS Office, drafting software (CAD/Revit), and applicable bridge/transportation design tools such as SAP2000.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites and client meetings.
• Willingness to travel overnight occasionally.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Proven team leadership, management, and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EBO compliance and reporting.
• In-depth knowledge of NYSDOT and FHWA standards.
• Active participation in professional societies and industry organizations.

Salary range

$110,000 – $170,000 +

Responsibilities

Program & Project Management

• Lead the planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of site development projects, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadway access, and stormwater management.
• Oversee multiple projects simultaneously from concept through completion, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines (architecture, structural, MEP, environmental) and external consultants to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Serve as an engineer experienced in working on projects led by a practice area outside of engineering, acting as an integral part of the project team. Champion a project or portfolio of projects within your home practice area, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with overall project goals.

Client & Business Development

• Serve as the primary point of contact for key site development clients.
• Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities in both public and private markets.
• Prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, and manage client expectations.
• Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and professional organizations.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical guidance and quality control for site design deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations.
• Implement best practices for design efficiency, permitting success, and constructability.
• Mentor and develop civil engineering staff, fostering technical growth and leadership skills.

People Management

• Lead and manage a large group or experienced team of civil engineering professionals.
• Foster a positive work environment that promotes high morale and employee engagement.
• Identify and support training opportunities for staff to advance skills and career growth.
• Monitor and manage staff utilization, balancing workloads to meet project demands while supporting professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

• Proven track record of managing multi-million-dollar site development projects.
• In-depth knowledge of site grading, utilities, stormwater management, permitting processes, and construction practices.
• Proficient in MS Office and drafting software (CAD/Revit) and site design software such as HydroCAD, AutoTURN, etc.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites and client meetings.
• Willingness to travel overnight occasionally.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Previous team leadership, management experience, and mentoring skills.
• Strong business development skills with the ability to grow a client base.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

• Familiarity with land development regulations, environmental permitting, and zoning approvals.
• Experience in both public and private sector site development projects.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• 6-14 years of experience.
• PE license is a plus.
• High proficiency in Word, Excel, and AutoCAD Civil 3D; self-motivated with excellent communication skills and the ability to work proficiently in a team setting.
• The ability to execute multiple deliveries simultaneously.
• Excellent technical writing abilities.
• Exceptional time management.

Internship Purpose

• Collaborate with team members to help prepare and coordinate proposal efforts.
• Assist with research, report preparation, design, permitting, and specification/plan preparation for assigned projects.
• Conduct field inspections and data acquisition.
• Research and learn zoning ordinances.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited institution.
• Excellent PC skills.
• Microsoft Office software experience required.
• Experience working with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D a big plus.
• Strong desire to learn and grow within Civil Engineering.
• Ability to work on-site and travel if needed.
