We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and grow our Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEP/S) design professional services in the Mid‑West region. This role will serve as a key liaison between our corporate Engineering Practice (based in Williamsville, NY) and operations in the Minneapolis and Eau Claire, WI offices.

This opportunity is open in our Minneapolis, MN and Eau Claire, WI offices.

You will focus on four primary areas of leadership:

  1. Managerial Leadership
  2. Technical Leadership
  3. Quality Assurance
  4. Business Development

Projects will include multi‑disciplinary facility design as well as innovative efforts in energy efficiency, electrification, and decarbonization. Responsibilities include proposal development, basis‑of‑design creation, project oversight, quality reviews, professional sealing of documents, team mentoring, recruiting, hiring, and expanding Wendel’s engineering presence in the Mid‑West.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert leader in MEP/S design professional services.
  • Have experience working with architects, project managers, construction managers, energy service companies, developers, contractors, etc.
  • Coordinate work and efforts with various managers responsible for project performance locally, and across the company’s footprint.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of NFPA, and applicable state and local building codes. Have depth of knowledge and expertise in your specific discipline (i.e. HVAC, electrical, structural, etc.).
  • Be able to lead an engineering team through an entire project. This includes leadership as a primary point of contact or working inside of an integrative project team.
  • Collaborate with company leaders and managers on initiatives, priorities, and project commitments.
  • Support business development efforts focused on MEP/S engineering services.
  • Recruit, build, and mentor an MEP/S engineering team in this region.
  • Lead preliminary assessments and high‑level project strategy planning.
  • Perform field investigations and condition assessments of existing systems.
  • Assist in proposal preparation and client presentations.
  • Develop basis‑of‑design documents, scopes of work, and schematic concepts.
  • Prepare reports and deliver presentations to clients and internal teams.
  • Make independent engineering decisions in the best interests of clients, teams, and projects.
  • Engage directly with clients throughout design and construction.
  • Review work completed by others; coach and mentor to build technical excellence.
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary teams in a collaborative environment focused on shared success.
  • Serve as Engineer‑of‑Record and professionally sign and seal construction documents within your specific technical discipline.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Expertise in MEP/S engineering design.
  • Strong QA/QC capabilities on assigned tasks and projects.
  • Ability to lead development of construction documents and support bidding and construction activities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is a plus.
  • Strong team‑oriented mindset.

Salary range

$135,000 – $175,000

Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer

Wendel is currently seeking a Senior Engineer to join our growing Water and Wastewater Engineering team. This position offers flexibility in the candidate’s location, and we offer a hybrid work schedule. This position is open in our Buffalo, Williamsville, Syracuse, Rochester, and Albany, NY offices. Our corporate headquarters is in Williamsville, NY.

 

Responsibilities

  • This role would include responsibilities as a “doer/seller” to lead and direct the development of water and wastewater infrastructure projects as a client facing manager.
  • Serve as Lead Senior Engineer on medium to large scale multi-discipline design and construction project efforts for water/wastewater projects which would include design leader, QA/QC reviewer, quality assurance, and technical advisor.
  • Support project management staff with inter/intradisciplinary coordination, scheduling, budgeting, and resources to meet project timeline and budget compliance.
  • Mentor mid/junior engineering and technical staff.
  • Working as a lead client contact to identify needs, provide solutions, and lead the growth of client relationships and business development.
  • Leading teams during the marketing and proposal phase of the project. This would include proposal writing, presentation, scope development, and budget development for water and wastewater projects.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering or related fields is required.
  • PE is preferred; experience and background will be considered in place of licensing.
  • The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience in the water or wastewater discipline, with a water treatment design focus preferred.
  • Experience with hydraulics, municipal water and wastewater treatment plant design, process instrumentation and controls.
  • Strong management, seller/doer, and leadership skills.
  • Previous experience working with municipalities and grant funding agencies.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be available to travel to job sites and client meetings. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Water/Wastewater Engineer

Wendel is currently seeking an Engineer to join our growing Water and Wastewater Engineering team. This position offers flexibility in the candidate’s location, and we offer a hybrid work schedule. Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Engineer for medium to large scale design and construction project efforts including distribution and collection system improvements as well as water and wastewater treatment plant rehabilitation work.
  • Support project management staff with inter/intradisciplinary coordination to meet project timeline and budget compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineering and technical staff.
  • Join client meetings and business development events (as needed) to help sustain and grow client relationships.
  • Prepare technical & design documentation including:
    • Reports, Technical Specifications, Regulatory Documentation.
    • Hydraulic modeling of distribution, storage, and collection systems.
    • Process Modeling of Treatment Systems.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering or related fields is required.
  • Candidate should have their EIT but PE is preferred, experience and background will be considered in place of licensing.
  • The ideal candidate has 6 – 14 years of experience in the water or wastewater discipline, however individuals seeking to leverage a broad portfolio of experience who are interested in becoming focused within the Water market will also be considered.
  • Experience with hydraulics, municipal water and wastewater treatment plant design, process instrumentation and controls.
  • Working experience with CAD and REVIT (BIM) software is preferred.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Willing to work outdoors in various weather at times.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be available to travel to job sites and client meetings. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
